We are excited, today, to announce that we are the only wine merchant in the world to be offering this very special 2011 Pinot Noir Santa Barbara County from our dear friend, Teri Love.
This delicious Pinot Noir is bursting with fruit, balanced by are the elements of spice and flinty minerals. The feel is elegant and refined, with plush tenants adding wonderful complexity on the palate. The finish is seemingly endless, with flavors that hayloft very slowly.
Bright and juicy, this Pinot Noir is an excellent companion for finer meals. We recommend pairing with a lovely roast ham, a pot roast, or your favorite seafood dishes.
Over the years we have really grown to love wines from Gioia and winemistress, Teri Love (who we affectionately call “Agent Love”) has become a wonderful friend. We hope that our reviews impart enough information and flavor - about wine and woman - that she feels like she is your friend, too.
Highly recommended, we encourage you to try today’s exceptional Pinot Noir!
Beautiful, almost glowing iridescent ruby tones, with a slightly darker core. At the rim of the glass, a fine ring of pink encircles the wine. After a good swirl, the shortest tears we have ever seen move slowly to the one below.
Bold and bright all at once, this wine leads with a heady rush of Bing cherry, juicy red raspberry and wild strawberry. These lovely aromas are followed by Rose Candy, dried cranberries and subtle wild fennel. After the wine breathes, it also reveals hints of sweet cigar box and busty bramble
Initially medium bodied empathy, this wine softens at the mid-palate, where it becomes round and elegant. Fine-grained tendons and a bright acidity provide a lovely nostril frame for the fresh fruit flavors.
Very balanced and very delicious with bright red fruits playing together, so nicely, with earthy components of spice and minerals. Juicy red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry are quickly followed up by soft nutty spice, dried fall leaves, subtle forest floor and a hint of green tobacco leaf.
Very long, very juicy and packed with every flavor that the wine has to offer. These flavors gradually dwindle, in even proportion to one another, for a very long time. At the very end, a soft, flinty dryness persists even longer.
What the Winery Says
The grape blend was picked, crushed, destemmed & cold soaked for 24 hours. Fermenter bins were inoculated with RC212 cultured yeast. Primary fermentation lasted 10 days. The must was pressed & the wine was transferred into tanks. The wine settled for 2 days in the tanks before it was racked into barrels. The wine was inoculated with Vinoflora OENOS cultures to start the secondary malolactic fermentation.

About the Winery
The inspiration for GIOIA was born from the joy my son Tyler brings to my life.
He studied abroad for a year in Florence, Italy, cherishing every second of his time there. Making the most of learning the language, traveling extensively…getting into the spirit of Italy.
GIOIA is in honor and memory of his strength, his loyalty, how fiercely he loved life, his family, his friends, animals and his ability to embrace each day with open arms. Ty showed me by example, to enjoy a great glass of wine while appreciating a gorgeous view in a tropical locale, snow covered mountains, pounding surf, or just chillin at home.
Every moment was an occasion to be celebrated, whether traveling, racing down a ski slope, hiking with our dogs, scoring a perfect ace in tennis, smacking a golf ball, dunking a basketball, riding his bicycle for hours, working out at the gym, dining at his favorite Italian restaurants, shopping for the coolest clothes and Italian shoes, hanging with his friends, enjoying and appreciating his girlfriend….all the while, laughing at himself, never taking life too seriously.
To say he was a joy to be around is a supreme understatement. Tyler was taken from this world, along with one of his closest childhood friends (Keith Naylor) at the age of 22 on November 12th, 2005. He was doing another of his favorite pastimes, driving his Ducati. Keith was on the back of the bike that night. They were going to visit friends.
A motorist pulled out from a parked position on the side of the road, in front of them, with no warning. He made an illegal U-Turn across two sets of double yellow lines on the Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades, California. This act ended the lives of these beautiful, dynamic, vital, amazing young men.
My reason for sharing this tragedy, is to reach out to others. I implore everyone to welcome joy into your lives. Take nothing for granted. Please honor and appreciate all of your relationships. Open your hearts and arms to all of your loved ones. Enjoy what life has to offer.
