Final Assessment
Today marks the third time that we are showing a J. Doran wine. With each new wine that we show, we fall in love a little bit more. Today’s 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is certainly the best J. Doran we’ve tasted to date.
A classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, this youthful wine shows off earthiness and bold fruit. The fruit is a little restrained, at first, but comes alive with decanting. In fact, we think that the fruit will evolve beautifully over the next few years.
Enjoy now, and lay a few bottles down. Pair with a roast game bird or a pepper crusted steak. A mushroom ragu over fresh tagliatelle would also be delightful.
Tasting Profile
Deep and mysterious with a dark purple heart and edges of dark garnet. The wine settles quickly when spun, leaving behind tall, slow-moving legs that crawl down the glass wall.
Dark and rich, with dark black cherry, bramble, blackberry compote and tea smoked plum. As the wine opens, it reveals dark dried leaves, dried blood rose petal, tobacco leaf and leather.
Reduced blackberry, picholine olive, black cherry and black cherry and mild tobacco leaf. Tea tannin and orange pekoe support a hint of black pepper and graphite at the edges of the palate.
Fine black tea tannin, tobacco, light olive and subtle savory herbs persist long after the black fruits have faded.

Our signature wine continues it’s impressive results. The Southern Yountville vineyard produces an intense & classic Napa Valley Cabernet, full bodied, ripe and balanced.
The palate is powerful & concentrated yet also shows an amazing mouth feel. Blackberry & other briary fruits glide across the palate while carrying hints of dark chocolate cedar & sandal wood.
Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines from the southern block of the Yountville Vineyard have produced a classic Yountville Appellation wine. Immediately noticeable in the glass are the soaring aromas of crème de cassis, warm saddle leather, slate-like minerality and subtle notes of tightly grained French oak. True to its vintage roots, the palate is powerful and concentrated yet also displays a measure of grace and an amazing mouthfeel. Blackberry and other briary fruit notes glide across the palate while carrying hints of camphor, dark chocolate, cedar and sandalwood.
