The Field of Love
Our tasting panel tasted this wine blind and almost everyone on the panel assumed that it was a a white Burgundy. Whether or not this was a deliberate decision on the part of the winemaker, we applaud him. This wine is delicious.
Chris Wills has impressed us, in the past, with his fantastic Katarina Cabernet Sauvignon. Our Operatives loved that wine, making it a best-seller. We are very proud to present a worthy follow-up with today’s 2009 Field Vineyard Katarina Chardonnay.
A delight with a wide variety of foods, we also recommend that you enjoy this wine all on its own. As you sip, allow the wine to warm in the glass. As it does, it releases a plethora of additional aromas and flavors.
This Burgundian-style Chardonnay gives the impression that it will continue to age for a number of years, so be sure to lock a few bottles away in your own top secret wine cave!
Brilliant and vibrant in the glass, with some of the lightest, prettiest golden (not pale) hues we’ve seen in a Chardonnay.
Shy on opening, this wine really comes to life after just a little warming and swirling. Light and fresh with lime leaf, Meyer lemon, white tea, flint and a hint of white peach.
Light and mineral-driven with bright citrus, lime zest, lime flower, early white peach, orange blossom and lemon peel.
Full on the palate with a very long and lingering finish. Intriguingly, some of the fruit comes on stronger after swallowing. Slate minerality persists long after the fruits fade.
Petrale sole with a cream-based or lemon-garlic butter sauce would be a divine companion to this intriguing Chardonnay.

- Tasting Notes
- Our current release Chardonnay appeals to anyone who enjoys a crisp, fresh, and citrus-driven white wine; even Sauvignon Blanc drinkers! The aromas in the glass reveal tropical fruit, bananas and a slight spicy character. The lingering finish, accompanied by spicy citrus, lime essence and flavors of new mown hay, makes this wine the perfect companion to poached fish or shellfish in cream sauce.
Winner NY International Wine Competition 2012.
About the Winery
Our old vines are nurtured by the rich soil of the Alexander Valley. Here Field Vineyards has been growing award winning cabernet grapes for some of wine’s most notable names such as Silver Oak, Gallo, Sterling, Clos Du Bois, Korbel, Fransiscan Winery, Sutter Home, Rodney Strong and more for decades. In 2003 winery owner, Katarina Field, decided to begin her own label, Katarina. Under the direction of noted winemaker Chris Wills, these hand-crafted, artisan wines have been winning awards since their debut. The Katarina Cabernets offer deliciously powerful blackberries and rich plum flavors with a hint of oak and leather on the nose. Our amazing Russian River Chardonnay grapes now showcase themselves in the 2009 Katarina Chardonnay. This Chardonnay sets itself apart from others by offering a crisp and tropical taste on the tongue, with a chewy banana on the nose, making a perfect bottle for fans of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Chablis drinkers alike. We offer these amazing wines to the public through hand-selected restaurants, retailers and through direct-to-consumer programs.
Our wines taste like you should save them for a special occassion, but they are priced to enjoy everyday. We love them, and we are confident you will too.
