Pellegrini Family Wines
2009 Olivet Lane Russian River Valley Chardonnay
California: Russian River Valley (Sonoma)
For more than 100 years, the Pellegrini family has been involved in winemaking - first in Italy and now, two generations later, in America. Founded in the 1970s by owner and winemaker John Pellegrini, the winery’s inaugural release was the first vintage of today’s very special wine.
We are very proud to present this heritage-rich 2009 Pellegrini Olivet Lane Russian River Valley Chardonnay, a wine that was declared to be the best white wine of our most recent tasting panel. All of us really loved the balance that we found in the wine. It was simultaneously complex and refreshing, a seeming paradoxical combination for many Chardonnays. This wine manages to be crisp and bright without sacrificing any richness of flavor or mouthfeel.
This wonderful and very highly recommended wine is drinking beautifully now, and we think that it will maintain its appeal for even a few more years. Quantity is very limited, so please accept our apology if you miss out.
Rich yellow from core to edge. After spinning the wine, it settles quickly - but keeps spinning at the center.
Rich and complex with lovely citrus, lime flower, acacia, orange blossom, clementine and river rock. As the wine warms, it reveals kumquat, pineapple, toasty vanilla, baked apple, caramel and dessert spices.
Fresh green apple and pear lead the way, soon joined by bright lemon zest, lime leaf, and pineapple. As the wine comes up to room temperature, it unveils toasty vanilla, brioche and limestone.
An extended finish that is silky and complex, particularly as the wine warms slightly.
This wine would be incredible with a salad of beets, goat cheese and fennel shavings.
What the Winery Says
This wine has classic Russian River notes of mineral and Golden Delicious apple evolving into hints of roasted bread. The mouth is rich and full-bodies with firm acidity, and the lingering finish is long and seamless. This wine is tasting great now and will develop an outstanding bottle bouquet in the next three to six years.
The Chardonnay grapes for this wine were harvested from the long rows in the west block of Olivet Lane. This area is on a vertical trellis, and numerous hours are spent throughout the season in shoot positioning, hand leafing, and cluster thinning - all key elements in producing quality fruit and flavor development.
