Christopher Creek Winery
2010 Ashley's Meritage
California: Dry Creek Valley (Sonoma)
Our tasting panel went absolutely crazy for today’s 2010 Ashley’s Meritage from our great friends at Christopher Creek Winery. This Bordeaux varietal blend is a beautifully balanced wine that is bursting with juicy flavors and lush aromas.
We are very lucky to have such close ties with Christopher Creek. This gives us special access to some of their wines, including library wines or, as is the case with today’s wine, new releases.
Enjoy this complex but balanced wine all on its own - or with a wide variety of richer foods. Enjoy now, but be sure to lay a few bottles down for the next decade or more. You can bet that we’ll be stocking our cellars with this fantastic Meritage!
Very dark and slightly opaque with an inky dark purple core. At the very edge of the wine, a lovely ring of magenta encircles the glass.
Rich and layered with sweet aromas that balance against spice and earth. Stewed blackberry, black cherry and blueberry dance with sweetwood, cured meat, bramble and dried brown tobacco leaf. As the wine breathes, it begins to unpack additional aromas of rich blueberry cordial, dried violets and sweet spice.
Mouthwatering and juicy with initial flavors of blackberry, blueberry, cassis and dried cranberry. These sit atop earthen and savory flavors of cocoa dust, peppercorn, hard leather and slate mineral.
Softly drying, with long-sustaining dark fruits that give way to leather, sweet spice and a hint of slate minerality.
Enjoy this sweet and savory wine with a lovely ground lamb moussaka.
What the Winery Says
A traditional Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grown on the eastern slope of Bradford Mountain from 36 year old vines. Aged in French oak for 18 months, with minimal finning and filtering to create a truly balanced and well-structured wine. Aromas of vibrant dark cherries with hints of anise and accents of chocolate powder and soft oak. Intense flavors of chocolate dipped black fruit, accompanied by notes of sweet oak. Wonderfully structured ripe tannins lead to a nice long, fruit driven finish.
