Today’s 2007 Burgess Cellars Napa Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon inspired a very spirited conversation about the art that is winemaking. This conversation came about after tasting some really good wines - and then tasting this really superb wine. The discussion was broader than we can share with you here, but we all agreed that as a winemaker matures and as their vineyards also mature, the winemaker’s talents also evolve… sometimes to the point when that talent presents as bottled art. Today’s wine is one which reinforces this somewhat esoteric tenet.
Today’s 2007 Burgess Cellars Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a thrilling, elegant and beautifully balanced wine that hails from the increasingly important 2007 vintage. We work hard to bring you extraordinary wines from this vintage, which Robert Parker awarded a decade-high 96 points.
This wine will instantly appeal to lovers of mountain fruit Cabernet. The wine entices you with an inviting nose of rich and classic Napa Cab aromas. On the palate, it has great texture and structure, delivering rich and concentrated flavors. The finish is very long with flavors that last long after you’ve taken your sip.

Dark garnet and deep purple with a clear but dark and inky core. The dense color of the wine carries through from core to meniscus. When swirled, thin legs hang for a moment before descending to the wine below.
Toasted oak frames ripe spiced blackberry, cassis and red currants with dark earthy minerals. Bold fruit, spice and wood aromas are woven with hints of sweet black licorice, cocoa and toasted vanilla.
Flavors of blackberry, spice, leather, black cherry, cassis and braised plum lead the way, with subtle mineral notes and earthy minerals providing great backbone.
Long and lasting with the textured, powdered tannins and earthy minerality coating the palate while the fruit flavor lingers. The dry and chewy mouth-feel makes the mouth water for another sip just as the fruit fades.
Enjoy this wonderful and elegant wine with something equally satisfying. A nice rare steak or perfectly grilled lamb shank would be a real delight.

Napa Valley is known for excellent and consistent wines, this year was no exception. From a solid fruit set to ideal harvest conditions, the grapes came in with stunning quality. More family involvement from Jim and Steve Burgess starting in 2006 resulted in a stricter, more detailed, and more thorough evaluation of maturity resulting is some of the most accurate picking dates ever. Knowing wines are made in the vineyard, this is paramount to success. True to Burgess style, our wines showcase the fruit, complemented by a hint of French oak.

About the Winery
Tom Burgess arrived in the Napa Valley in 1972 when the landscape was vastly different. At that time there were only about two dozen wineries in operation. Napa was by no means the center of California wine it is today. Tom sensed a great potential in the wild and rural land and chose it to pursue his dream of opening a family winery. He was a pioneer because prohibition (1920-1933) had destroyed the Napa wine business and America’s food and wine culture. Tom bought a small mountain-side winery which had been homesteaded in the 1870’s. With many trips to the hardware store and much labor of love the family transformed it into Burgess Cellars. Since 1972 the Burgess Family has worked to realize their vision – to create the very best estate grown grapes and produce unique handcrafted wines that are true complements to the food and wine concept that Tom fell in love with in the 60’s while in Europe.
The French concept of terroir is at the heart of Burgess Cellars’ winemaking process.The Burgess Family follows the belief that in order to produce quality wine, the varietals planted must match the vineyard’s soil composition, sun and wind exposure, and overall micro-climate.
Burgess Cellars produces wines out of three distinct vineyard sites. Our flagship wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon, thrives on the western slopes of Howell Mountain at the winery location. On the valley floor, in the Oak Knoll District, sits Triere® Vineyard, which produces our award-winning Merlot. Our Syrah comes out of the vineyard which is located on the eastern side of Howell Mountain off Ink Grade Road. Currently, we grow eight varieties at our three vineyards with the best site-specific methods. Our consistency and ability to maintain style every year is due to this dedicated concept of only growing our grape varietals where they grow best.
