Mission Briefing

Codename:

Paso's Pinot Prince

We are in love with this delicious Pinot Noir. If you’ve never had a Paso Robles Pinot, we really encourage you to sample this wonderful example - from our most regularly-featured Paso winemaker, Shannon O’Neill. Shannon is one of a handful of winemakers that put Paso Robles on the map as a wine producing region. His depth of experience in making wines here is unrivaled.

Today’s remarkable 2010 Maloy O’Neill Pinot Noir is a delicious, extracted, juicy delight of a wine. It expresses the unique character of the region, while maintaining an even balance. Yes, this wine packs a juicy punch, but it does not taste like punch. Instead, this is a true Pinot Noir - with a Paso Robles, Shannon O’Neill edge to it.

Pair this very food-friendly wine with a juicy steak or a hearty pasta dish.

Tasting Profile

Look:

Deep, dark and gorgeous, with ruby hues, with perfectly even concentration of color, from core to edge. Tall, skinny legs descend slowly down the glass when swirled.

Smell:

Bold aromas of cherry, strawberry, raspberry and blueberry leap from the glass. These aromas sit atop cedar, baking spice, kola nut, subtle leather and a hint of chalky minerality.

Taste:

A burst of bright red cherry juice combines with wild strawberry, juicy raspberry and flint. As the wine opens, follow-on flavors emerge, including cassis, dried cherry and a hint of sweet tobacco leaf.

Finish:

Juicy and very long, with red fruits that seem to sustain forever. As the fruits fade, a chewy dryness emerges. When the fruit finally fades, a hint of sweet tobacco and flint remain for a ling time.

Tasting Notes

Don’t belive everything that you read - you can grow Pinot in Paso! Yes, even on the Eastside! This Pinot is characterized by aromas of cherry cola, vanilla, and ripe raspberries. You may find some nutmeg and earthy mushroom notes too. I would have to say that this wine should definitely prove my Point!

Cheers!
