2009 Galante Petite Sirah
Petite Sirah • Olive Hill
California: Carmel Valley
Another outstanding achievement from our dear friend, Jack Galante, today’s delicious 2009 Galante Vineyards Petite Sirah is a real crowd pleaser. It is also a fantastic representation of the unique terroir of Jack’s Carmel Valley estate vineyard - and the winemaking prowess of Greg Vita.
Bright, juicy and loaded with character, today’s youthful wine is just beginning to come into its own. Drinking just beautifully as of this writing, the wine will only continue to improve. With enough fruit, acid and structure to make this a wine to lay down, we’re sure that it will continue to improve for years to come. That’s not holding us back, though, we’re drinking our bottles, now.
Pair with our own Grandma Annie’s Kitchen Chicken breasts, breaded with cheddar, garlic, butter breadcrumbs. Mix these simple ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat and then coat chicken breasts before oven roasting. Enjoy!
Deep and dark, with inky magenta hues. A fine ring finest ring of glinting ruby circles the glass. When swirled, the wine leaves behind chubby, wine-stained tears.
Fragrant and lush, with the perfect balance of bright fruit and dark, heady, earthy aromas. Big, ripe blackberry, sloe berry and blueberry jump from the glass. These are quickly followed by dark plum, blueberry preserve, black cherry and sweet brown spice. After the wine breathes for a while, intriguing aromas of crushed violets, toasty caramel and cedar round out the nose.
Very well balanced, lead by blackberry, blueberry, plum and black cherry. These are perfectly balanced against sweet tobacco, Bing cherry, soft cigar box and crushed black flower petals. At the very end, a hint of sweet brown spice, black licorice, subtle graphite and black pepper appear.
Very long and deeply flavorful with long sustained dark fruit flavors that gradually yield to intriguing dried flowers, spice and minerals. The spreading dryness leaves the mouth feeling satisfied - and longing for another delicious sip.
What the Winery Says
We grow our Petite Sirah at two elevations on our property – 100 feet and 1800 feet. These two vineyards are quite different in temperature and soil and, as such, the grapes take on different characteristics. This entirely hand cultivated Petite Sirah imparts a lovely aroma of violets and rose. It has expressive flavors of bright cherry and sweet vanilla and a light tannic backbone.

French Oak Aged
Galante Olive Hill Carmel Valley 2007 Monterey
Full-bodied and virile, even and rich, but with vibrant acidity and well-integrated, fine-grained, grippy tannins. Initial attack of violets, blueberries, and black raspberries unfolds with flavors of tobacco, black licorice, smoke, and spices. At 12.5% ABV, it proves there can be complexity and persistence without big alcohol-at least in the right terroir (in this instance, dry-farmed hillside fruit). Still an infant, with a long life ahead. Drink now to 2020+

About the Winery
At Galante Vineyards our philosophy is simple: grow the finest grapes possible and let the fruit express itself in the wine. Since all of our grapes are estate grown, each bottle of wine we produce embodies the characteristics of our unique region, exhibiting the natural flavors that are born from the land.
The Galante Family has a long history in the Monterey area. Owner Jack Galante’s great grandfather, J.F. Devendorf, was the founder of the town of Carmel. He later built the Pine Inn and the prestigious Highlands Inn. In 1969, Jack’s parents purchased a 700-acre cattle ranch in rustic Carmel Valley. While still maintaining a working cattle ranch, the Galantes, in 1983, began growing premium grapes on their property, specializing in Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1994, Jack Galante decided to build a winery and use some of his grapes to produce ultra-premium estate bottled wines. Today Galante is recognized as one of the premier Cabernet Sauvignon producers in Monterey County and all of California.
