Mission Briefing

Codename:

Micro AVA

At under a quarter of a square mile, Cole Ranch is a Mendocino County AVA that has the distinction of being the smallest in the nation. This unique appellation sits between the Russian River Valley and the Anderson Valley.

Today’s 2007 Everett Ridge Ensemble is quite an elegant wine. Mouthfeel is soft and plush while flavors and aromas are full of fruit.

Winemaker Lynn Krausmann is certainly one to watch. Her Everett Ridge wines - and those of sister winery, Esterlina Vineyards - have been getting loads of positive attention in wine-drinking circles around our two valleys (of Sonoma and Napa).

As we’ve always recommended, stock up on any 2007 that we offer up. Red wines of this vintage set a decade-long record for quality - so please don’t miss out.

Tasting Profile

Look:

Bold ruby color at its core, this wine has jolly pink edges that glint in the light.

Smell:

Juicy and fruit driven, but with an under layer of complex woodsy notes. This wine starts with black cherry and blackberry and leads to green tomato stem, wet river rock and subtle white jasmine tea.

Taste:

Bold and vivacious with a big rush of tart black and red fruit that gives way to earthen flavors. In the lead, black cherry and underripe blackberry cascade across the palate. These are followed by cedar, dried leaves, toasty oak, walnut and toasty oak.

Finish:

Nice and long, with a pronounced with all flavors tailing off gradually - and in equal proportion. At the tail end, violet and essence of blueberry join in, until all of the flavors have faded.

Pairing:

The complexity and high acidity of this wine lends itself to a herb rubbed pork tenderloin. On the side, we’d serve crostini topped with an olive tapenade.

What the Winery Says

This Merlot-driven blend reflects our Cole Ranch Appellation’s unique character and distinctive elegance.

The 2007 Everett Ridge Ensemble flourishes an extraordinary lushness in mouth feel. Its texture is so round, supple and plush that it conveys the impression of velvet in the mouth. Evident ripeness gives the perception of sweetness and persistence to the generous red currant and black cherry fruit flavors.

This wine is immediately approachable and already delicious, though it is best to age it for another year or two to appreciate its full potential.

Highlight the seamless texture of this wine by enjoying with soft teleme cheese or serving with ground veal and mushroom ragu over pappardelle.
