Ardente Estate Winery
2001 Atlas Peak Napa Valley Grande Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
California: Napa Valley: Atlas Peak
Today’s 92-Point (Rober Parker, Jr.) 2001 Ardente Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon is the Aged Cabernet Sauvignon lover’s dream. Just a little bit shy, at first, this wine really opens up to reveal aromas of leather, tobacco, spice and dark fruit. On the palate, the wine is elegant, supple and soft.
This is an incredible 2001 with a ton of life still left in it. This wine could easily go for another decade or more. Enjoy this perfectly aged Cabernet Sauvignon all on its own or with a wide range of tasty accompaniments.
Very Highly Recommended
Ultra dark and very opaque. Inky purple hues at the core reach right out to a very fine ring of garnet at the edge of the glass.
After decanting - or some hearty swirling - this wine springs to life with blackberry and spiced cherry that leap from the glass. These are followed by tobacco leaf, dark leather, spice, black pepper and the most subtle hint of eucalyptus.
This wine presents a lot of front-palate flavor, leading with blackberry, cassis, plum, dried cherry and soft leather. As the wine settles onto the palate, it reveals spice, leather and flint at the edges.
Flavors linger longest at the front palate and at the back edges. Soft tannins extend the front palate finish, pulling the flavors through for an extended, mouthwatering finish.
This elegant wine begs for something rich, such as bacon wrapped spareribs with a side of BBQ bell peppers; a grilled steak; or a bacon wrapped pork chop with rosemary.
What the Winery Says
A stunningly brilliant Napa Cabernet that can be drunk now or cellared for another decade or more, Ardente’s dense plum/purple hued 2001 offers up sweet notes of chocolate, cassis and espresso roast along with supple tannin, full body and a fleshy, concentrated style.

About the Winery
Ardente Estate Winery is a family-owned estate organized in the manner of a traditional European chateau. The winery and the vineyard are located on the estate in the quiet hills of Atlas Peak, at an altitude of 1500 feet just eight miles from the city of Napa. The rocky, volcanic terrain and arid climate denigrate the vines, forcing them to work harder and produce more concentrated fruit. The harvest commence most years in late October, giving the grapes a long hang-time, resulting in well ripened and mature fruit.
